Dr. Demkee Honored for 60 Years of Membership
Tuesday November 26, 2025 was the 60th annual holiday dinner concert, which certainly has become an Allentown Band tradition. Over two hundred friends and supports gathered for this festive occasion at a new venue, the DeSales University Center in Center Valley.
A highlight of this special evening was recognition of Dr. Demkee's 60 years of membership in The Allentown Band. Ron started his band career playing tuba, and of course has served almost fifty years as music director and conductor.
On behalf of the board and membership, DeVaughn Roberts presented Ron with a shadowbox keepsake and read this statement from the board president Jon Conrad:
Dear Ron,
Sixty years is an extraordinary milestone. It is remarkable to reflect on how far things have come since 1965, when you first joined the Allentown Band as a member of the tuba section and soloist under Bert Meyers.
Just over a decade later, in November 1977, you were nominated and selected as conductor, beginning in 1978. Since then, you have led the Band with a commitment that reflects and strengthens our mission: to preserve and advance the heritage of concert band music by providing quality, inspiring performances, and education in partnership with the community and beyond.
The success and longevity of any organization is dependent on the dedication and values of its people. Your leadership has been instrumental in building lasting relationships with our community, donors, and, most importantly, the membership of the Band itself.
Your contributions over the decades are woven into the Band’s history. Under your direction, the Band has represented Allentown and the concert band tradition on international stages in Switzerland, Austria, and France, and has appeared at the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall, while also maintaining strong relationships with leading service bands. These accomplishments, and many others, have helped enhance the Band’s reputation both locally and nationally.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and the membership, please accept our heartfelt congratulations and appreciation on reaching this significant milestone. Your passion for the Allentown Band continues to be evident in the time, care, and commitment you devote to its growth and artistry. We are sincerely grateful.
Thank you for the leadership, motivation, and inspiration you continue to provide. The Allentown Band would not be what it is today without your many contributions.
With warmest regards and deepest thanks,
Jon B. Conrad
President, Board of Directors
